ADB to resume relations

The African Development Bank (ADB) last week announced it will resume cooperative relations with Angola this year. News reports on Monday quoted Aguinaldo Jaime, governor of the Angola National Bank, as saying the ADB delegation was willing to assist government efforts to revamp the economy and introduce economic reforms as well as in the settlement of Angola’s arrears with the ADB. Said Jaime: “We have begun to pay our arrears. This will permit the resumption of cooperation between ADB and the Angolan government in 2000. The bank will provide technical assistance.” Jaime added that cooperation would increase in 2001 with the possibility of loans being granted, depending on the evolution of the Angolan government’s reforms.
