Government offers US logistical support

The Djibouti government has offered the United States logistical support following last week's terrorist attacks in Washington and New York. An American official said Djibouti had offered America "logistical support for future operations", Reuters reported on Wednesday. France, which has also promised the United States its support, has a permanent base in Djibouti, comprising Foreign Legion troops, a squadron of fighter jets, and sophisticated surveillance equipment. Djibouti hosted US troops during the US military intervention in Somalia in 1995, and by virtue of its location at the southern tip of the Red Sea offers a key strategic position for any operations in the Gulf area.
