Day of mourning for Bokassa opponent

Central African Republic President Ange-Felix Patasse declared last Saturday a day of mourning for Albert N'Dodet, a leader of the 1979 student uprising against the regime of dictator Jean-Bedel Bokassa, AFP reported. N'Dodet, who died last week in his 40s, served as minister of youth and sports between 1993 and 1995 and then headed the national printing office. A member of the ruling Movement for the Liberation of Central Africa (MLPC), N'dodet gained renown for his leading role in the 1979 student uprising against Bokassa. The revolt led to the overthrow of the self-proclaimed emperor when France, the country's former colonial ruler, intervened militarily.
