Rebel faction leader extends condolences to US

Reacting to Tuesday’s terrorist attack against the US, the rebel Conseil national pour la defense de la democratie (CNDD) faction of Leonard Nyangoma in a letter addressed to US President George W. Bush and US Secretary of State Colin Powell on Wednesday stated that the “CNDD, all Burundian people and myself want to express our deepest heartfelt sorrow and condolences to the victims and their families and to the United States People and Government. Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims and people and families who have untimely lost their loved ones and/or have their lives shattered by this unspeakable destruction. We pray that God Almighty provide those people with all the resources they need to quickly recover from those tragic events. The CNDD is energetically and categorically opposed to all forms of terrorism and will fight it by all means. The CNDD condemns without any reservation the cowardly massacre of innocent people that the terrorists perpetrated. The CNDD supports the decision of your country to identify and bring to justice those who are responsible for this bloodshed and destruction.”
