EU contributes US $50,000 to public library

The European Union (EU) has contributed US $50,000 towards the building of the Kigali Public Library, Rwanda News Agency (RNA) reported on Monday. Citing a press release from the Rotary Club of Kigali-Virunga, the organisation responsible for mobilising resources for the project, RNA noted that this donation makes the EU the third largest donor to the library and entitles the EU to a permanent seat on the library governing board and the right to name one of the library’s special collections. According to Rotary Club President Musa Kasonka, “now that we have this donation, coupled with the fact that the design for the library is now complete, we can start construction in mid-September.” To date, the project has received almost $400,000 in cash and in-kind pledges towards its goal of US $1.2 million.
