Eritrea protests over attack

The government of Eritrea has lodged an official protest with the UN peacekeeping mission for Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) condemning an Ethiopian army attack on an Eritrean police post inside the Temporary Security Zone, according to Eritrean state radio on 9 September. The radio said the attack had taken place on the night of 5 September, targeting an Eritrean police post along the Bure-Assab road, and leaving one Eritrean policeman seriously wounded. Andeberhan Woldegiorgis, the Eritrean commissioner for coordination with UNMEE, said the attack had been the latest in a series of Ethiopian attacks, which violated the cessation of hostilities agreement and endangered the peace agreement between the two countries.
