The government of Sudan on Tuesday received notification from the secretariat of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) of the postponement of the latest round of peace negotiations with the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A), which was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, 5 September, according to the undersecretary of the foreign ministry, Dr Mutrif Siddiq. He said Khartoum had received the postponement notice after an advance delegation had already arrived in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, for the talks, and while a substantial delegation was preparing to leave, the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported. It quoted sources as saying that the postponement was due to the non-arrival in Nairobi of the rebel delegation.
