PARENA demonstration slated for 11 August

The pro-Tutsi PARENA party has called upon its members and sympathisers to “participate in large numbers in a peaceful demonstration to strongly and resolutely oppose the dismantling of the national army - sole shield against the genocide of the Batutsi people - against invasion by foreign troops, which signifies the putting under trusteeship of our dear homeland...” Burundi news agency, Net Press, said that PARENA also intends to protest against “amnesty for the crime of genocide, the putting on a pedestal of impunity and the promotion of genocide and crimes against humanity as political opinions”.
