Kagame meets Museveni’s special envoy

Meanwhile, President Kagame on Wednesday held talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s special envoy, Ruhakana Rugunda who is also Uganda’s minister for water, lands and environment, a statement from Kagame’s press office said. Rugunda delivered an invitation to President Kagame to attend the SMART partnership dialogue which is due to take place in Kampala, Uganda between 18-21 August. The meeting aims to facilitate dialogue between African leaders on the one hand, and investors and business people on the other, to discuss how best to promote investment and trade and develop African economies, the statement said. The conference will be attended by 10 heads of state, including Malaysia’s prime minister who will be leading a high-powered delegation of 50 Malaysian investors. The African Trade Insurance Agency will also be launched during the Kampala conference. The agency, which has so far received US $10 million funding from the World Bank, will insure investors against political risks, and is expected to contribute to an overall increase in foreign direct investment to Africa, the statement added.
