WFP to delivery food to 20,538 IDPs mid-August

WFP reported on 3 August that 20,538 Guineans displaced by fighting would be receiving food aid by mid-month in Mamou, 220 km northeast of Conakry. The UN agency is distributing food to another 24,676 people in the region of Faranah, 320 km east of the capital. WFP and the non-governmental organization Premiere Urgence are feeding another 6,416 IDPs and vulnerable residents in the Parrot’s Beak area, a piece of Guinean territory that juts into eastern Sierra Leone. The area has been the scene of fighting between Guinean troops and insurgents from Sierra Leone, forcing thousands of Sierra Leonean refugees and Guineans to flee.
