Governor says Southern Darfur security improved

Southern Darfur was currently enjoying relative stability, with a reduction in the incidence of armed banditry and tribal conflict that were ravaging the state some months ago, the ‘Khartoum Monitor’ on Thursday quoted state Governor, Maj-Gen Salah Ali al-Ghali, as saying. The governor was briefing the ruling National Congress on the steps taken to calm the security situation in Southern Darfur [where violence flared in April], the report stated. Al-Ghali said the state government would not be able to eradicate insecurity instantly but had started implementing a new security plan agreed upon with the authorities in Khartoum, under which it was addressing religious orientation and other social activities.
