RCD-Kisangani takes issue with facilitation of dialogue

Reaffirming its support for the holding of the inter-Congolese dialogue, the rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie (RCD-Kisangani) faction lead by Ernest Wamba dia Wamba announced in a statement issued Thursday that it “noted with bitterness that the facilitation [the office of the facilitator of the inter-Congolese dialogue], despite its commitment and good faith, is acting in a manner that creates further confusion regarding the issue of participation and selection of participants in the national inter-Congolese dialogue.” The statement further noted that the RCD-Kisangani took issue with an alleged infrequency of consultation by the facilitator with the signatories of the Lusaka peace agreement. As a remedy, the statement recommended that all signatories of the Lusaka peace agreement be included in all consultations; that only the “belligerent Congolese signatories” of the agreement should decide on its interpretation; that the facilitator must act in strict adherence to the agreement; that the facilitator play his role as defined in the agreement; and that the inter-Congolese dialogue take place as soon as possible.
