Contribution to support on going programmes

Meanwhile, an ICRC official in Nairobi on Wednesday said that the US contribution will augment in providing the assistance of both food and non food items needed by ICRC in coordination with other agencies like the WFP. “ICRC is extremely grateful for this contribution,” the official told IRIN on Wednesday. He said that ICRC launched an extension appeal in April for programmes in Burundi in the areas of emergency food assistance operation in coordination with WFP. ICRC works in Kayanza and Ngozi where serious food deficits were reported. The first phase of assistance was carried out in April in six communes in Kayanza. The organisation hopes to carry out the second phase of the assistance in Ngozi starting September to some 6,000 residents and the displaced to enable “the vulnerable communities to survive until the next harvest”, the official said.
