Government lifts ban on milk from Uganda

The government of Rwanda has lifted the ban on milk imports from Uganda which was imposed in March 1999, Rwanda News Agency (RNA) reported on Monday. The imports are to supplement that of Rwanda’s Nyabisindu Dairy Cooperation. RNA quoted the director of production in the defence ministry, Ndoba Rutumu, as saying that the decision to import milk from Uganda was as a result of scarcity of milk to Nyabisindu Dairy Cooperation to increase high quality milk production in the country. Rutamu further said that both Rwandan and Ugandan governments held fruitful discussions that culminated into a decision by the Rwandan government to import extra milk from Uganda Dairy Cooperation to bridge the missing gap on the market.
