Recreation centre for exploited children

A multi-purpose recreational centre for children in difficult situations was inaugurated on Wednesday in Ziguinchor, southern Senegal, ‘Le Soleil’ daily reported. The centre, which cost an estimated US $80,000, will cater for boys and girls who suffer abusive practices such as child labour and sexual exploitation. It is to provide academic and skills training, the daily reported. The US Embassy in Senegal donated US $16,000 while the rest was covered by an NGO, ENDA-Acas. The Senegalese government donated the land. Child-protection agencies, including UNICEF, say some 400,000 children suffer from various types of exploitation in Senegal.
