Chad’s ruling Rassemblement des forces democratiques du Tchad (RFDT) has accused opposition leaders of trying to disrupt national cohesion and to manipulate national and international opinion on Chad’s realities after losing presidential elections in May, BBC reported.
In a statement on Tuesday, the RFDT called on the opposition “to come back to their senses” and work together for the consolidation of democracy and development in Chad, BBC reported.
The six losing candidates claimed that the polls, won by President Idriss Deby, were rigged and have used various means to protest Deby’s re-election and press for a more democratic political climate. Their parties had planned to start a countrywide civil disobedience campaign on Monday but shelved their plan because of insufficient public support.
