Tripartite commission on refugees meeting ends

The ninth tripartite commission meeting on the repatriation of Rwandan refugees from Tanzania, at the weekend resolved to continue sensitising refugees and to increase cross border visits for the promotion of the voluntary return of Rwandan refugees, Rwandan radio said. The meeting which brought together Rwandan, Tanzanian and UNHCR officials agreed that “visits in both directions and overall information campaign through media and video be utilised by refugees”, a joint press release said, according to the radio. Up to 260,000 Rwandans are believed to be in camps of Lukole east, Lukole B, Gitare Hills and Mbumba transit facility all in northwestern Tanzania, the commission noted.
