Land mine explosion

Two government soldiers were wounded on Wednesday when their vehicle triggered an anti-personnel mine on a highway 25 km south of Ziguinchor, Southern Senegal, the Panafrican News Agency reported. The soldiers were flown to the capital, Dakar, for treatment. Land mines are widespread in Casamance. The area has been the battleground between government forces and the Mouvement des forces democratiques de Casamance that has been fighting for independence for the past 19 years. Each side has accused the other of planting the devices.
