Government to appoint an evaluation team

Rwanda’s state minister for finance and economic planning, Celestin Kabanda, has said that his government will appoint a multi-disciplinary team of experts to evaluate and monitor all donor funded projects to ensure a more coordinated and efficient implementation. Kabanda was speaking at a conference aimed at reviewing the performance of 11 World Bank-financed projects in Rwanda, Rwanda News Agency (RNA) reported. He said that the team of experts would work with World Bank technical team to ensure timely execution of the projects and identification of both generic and project specific problems with a view to finding lasting solutions to the problems identified. “The most important obligation for us, however, is to have timely and effective financial management system that can make a close follow-up of the activities and subsequently come up with an accurate audit and supervision report,” he noted. The World Bank representative, Edward Brown, for his part, said that the discussion not only highlighted issues of crucial concern for the parties but it also proposed practical solutions and recommendations. “As partners in development it is our interest that projects are properly designed and implemented in order to achieve results on the ground for a Rwanda free of poverty,” he said.
