Annan appoints new representative

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan appointed General Lamine Cissé, former interior minister of Senegal, as his representative in the Central African Republic and head of the United Nations Peace-building Support Office (BONUCA) in that country, a UN spokesman announced on Monday. General Cissé, who is expected to take office in Bangui at the end of July, is in New York this week for briefings with senior UN officials, the spokesman said. Cissé succeeds Cheikh Tidiane Sy, who resigned last May. The UN ended a CAR peacekeeping mission last year.
