Lawyer wants investigator reinstated

A co-counsel for genocide suspect, Ferdinand Nahimana, on Tuesday asked the Arusha-based ICTR to reinstate Aloys Ngandahimana, one of the four defence investigators dismissed on Monday. “It is quite clear that there has been an error of identification. The ‘Aloys Ngandahimana’ who is said to be on the list of genocide suspects in Rwanda is a different person from our investigator,” the Internews service quoted the co-counsel, Diana Ellis, as saying in a letter to the Tribunal’s Registrar, Adama Dieng. Ellis regretted that Tribunal officials did not contact Nahimana’s lawyers or Ngandahimana before issuing a statement announcing the investigator’s dismissal. She said the Tribunal’s statement amounted to defamation.
