Nine killed in attacks

A total of nine people, including eight rebels were killed during attacks in Rumonge area, western Burundi, Net Press reported on Monday. It said a group assailants attacked Mugomere neighbourhood in Rumonge municipality on Monday morning and killed one person and seriously wounded another. Two houses were ransacked, a dozen goats and drums of banana beer were stolen. Two rebels who were part of the assailants, reportedly handed over two guns to Mugomere administrative and security force officials. A separate group of assailants made an attempted attack on Iteba neighbourhood, also in Rumonge municipality, but were intercepted by security forces and young peacekeepers in Nkayamba region on the outskirts of the municipality, Net Press said. On Sunday, eight rebels were killed and one firearm seized as security forces chased the rebels who were heading for Mutambara-Makombe sector in Gatete zone, western Burundi, Net press added.
