Mugabe comments on DRC situation

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on Wednesday said that peace efforts in the DRC must include non military citizens in that country, Zimbabwean radio reported. Mugabe was speaking in Harare where he met the EU peace delegation which was led by Aldo Ajello. He said the search for peace would be incomplete if the civilian population was excluded from the peace initiatives. He warned the peace mediators not to be held back by rebels “who are bringing new matters each time during the group’s consultative meetings”. Ajello, for his part, said the DRC rebels were hesitant to commit themselves to the peace initiatives as they were not aligned to any political party. The two, however expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far in the ceasefire arrangements in support of the peace accord.
