Rebels reaffirm commitment to peace, warn of risks

The rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie (RCD-Goma) has said the Congolese crisis will have to be resolved “irrevocably through an inter-Congolese dialogue”. It issued the statement after a meeting of its executive committee on Friday “despite the resumption of hostilities by the Kinshasa regime through the transfer of the war to behind [RCD-Goma] lines and the illegal occupation of disengagement areas near the frontline”, Goma radio reported. However, RCD-Goma warned that “increased activity by the negative forces operating in our territory, supported by the Kinshasa regime, risks compromising the entire peace process....”
