WFP details food distributions

In response to the worsening drought situation in Rwanda, WFP is conducting distributions in the Bugesera area in Kigali Rural Prefecture. This follows distributions in Gitarama and Kibungo Prefectures. During this operation, a total of 2,518 mt of food aid is to be distributed to some 32,000 households. The food aid distributions that commenced in Bugesera on 16 August 2000 are set to be completed on 31 August 2000. A total of 321 mt of food were distributed in Gitarama to some 4,100 households from 31 July to 4 August 2000. A further 1120 mt were distributed to some 14,230 households in Kibungo Prefecture from 7-16 August 2000. WFP also distributed a total of 1,933 mt to some 24,539 households in May 2000 in Bugesera area. A total of 5,892 mt of food aid will have been distributed to some 74,869 drought affected households upon completion of the distributions in Kigali Rural on 31 August 2000 since the start of this year.
