Joint military exercises with US

Malian and US forces have begun joint military exercises in Mali on peacekeeping and disaster management preparedness, the Panafrican News Agency reported on Monday. The report, citing a statement by the Army Information and Public Relations Department, said the exercises began on 15 June at garrisons in Kati, Sikasso and the capital Bamako, and were part of ‘Operation Flintlock’ which the US holds in an African country every year. The exercises, which involve the military, police and civil defence service along with civilian health services, are to last 12 days, the report said.
