Kabila, Museveni talks postponed

A proposed first meeting between DRC President Joseph Kabila and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, aimed at ending the war in the DRC, has been postponed until an unannounced date in July, the semi-official Ugandan newspaper ‘New Vision’ reported on Monday. The meeting, which was tentatively scheduled to take place on 27 June in Arusha, Tanzania, had been arranged after mediation by Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa. Last week, the ‘New Vision’ quoted Ralph Ochan, Permanent Secretary in the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as saying that Mkapa would broker the historic summit meeting, aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis in the DRC and normalising relations between Uganda and the DRC.
