Goma civil society chooses dialogue delegates

Civil society representatives in the eastern DRC town of Goma on Tuesday chose their delegates to the inter-Congolese dialogue, according to a statement from the office of the facilitator Ketumile Masire. “The Forces Vives [civil society] in Goma chose their representatives within a framework of freedom and security,” said Hassen Ould Lebatt, the DRC representative of the facilitator. “No visible interference occurred during the process.” He described this first step in the process as “positive and encouraging for the continued designation of representatives for the inter-Congolese dialogue”. Goma radio named the two delegates as Alexandre Mayugi and Masumbuko Ngwasi. The facilitator’s delegation will witness the same designation process in major towns throughout the DRC. A preparatory meeting for the inter-Congolese dialogue is to be held in Botswana on 16 July.
