Methodists appeal for aid

The US-based United Methodist Church has appealed for urgent and generous donations to a fund it has set up to help thousands of people displaced by war in northern Liberia’s Lofa County. The church said on Friday that its Liberia chapter has been distributing medicines, food to thousand of IDPs camped at its Gbarnga mission station, “but the need for food, medicine and other relief items remains critical.” It estimates there are now 27,000 IDPs in Liberia. Most are women, and many are suffering from coughs, diarrhoea, malaria and malnourishment, it said.
