Economic forum calls on government to “reverse” economic policies

Zimbabwe’s National Economic Consultative Forum (NECF) on Monday called on the government to reverse economic policies detrimental to the development of the country’s economic base, according to a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) radio report. Forum spokesperson Mnhlanhla Masuku said in an interview with the station that apart from focusing on a few, selected sectors of the economy, the government should implement measures that would lead to the development of the entire national economy. He said that contrary to views that the devaluation of the Zimbabwe dollar would lead to the recovery of the ailing economy, the measure would destroy the whole economic infrastructure as more commodities, particularly imported goods, would be out of reach of the majority. The NECF comprises representatives of labour, employers, and the government.
