RSF protests against ban on politics on private radio

RSF asked the president of the Haut conseil de la communication (HCC), Emmanuel Touade, in a letter dated 24 April, to revoke the ban, imposed on 17 April, and allow all media to cover the election freely. “A presidential election is a primordial stage in the democratic process of a country,” RSF Secretary-General Robert Menard said. “It would be unthinkable that only the audiovisual media can cover it.” Moreover, he said, there was a real risk that the incumbent president would be given much more coverage than opposition candidates.
