Injured Burundians said arriving in Tanzania

Injured Burundians fleeing fighting at home have reportedly been arriving in the western Tanzanian region of Kigoma over the past week. The Tanzanian ‘Guardian’ daily on Monday quoted the Burundians as saying they were fleeing a “campaign of terror mounted by rebels”. The regional police commander, Boniface Mgongolwa, told the newspaper that about three to five refugees were entering daily, coming via Lake Tanganyika into western Tanzania’s Kasulu and Kibondo districts. He said they were received by the regional authorities and then sent to the refugee camps.
