Rebels agree to resumption of food transportation

Officials of the Congolese Liberation Front (CLF) has agreed that transportation of food between Kisangani and Kinshasa be resumed, subject to “certain conditions”. Rebel-controlled radio from Bunia quoted CLF Deputy Secretary-General Olivier Kamitatu as saying that vehicles transporting the food should display UN stickers to show that they were not involved in “spying activities”. The radio also quoted CLF spokesman Dominique Kanku as urging the secretary-general in charge of the Bunia-Kisangani road to make sure that the road was maintained “so that food to be transported to Kisangani also comes from the interior of the province through [the] Kisangani-Bunia and Kisangani-Isiro roads”.
