Kabila, Zuma meet

DRC President Joseph Kabila met South Africa’s deputy president, Jacob Zuma, in Kinshasa on Monday, DRC state-run television reported. Zuma was in Kinshasa to brief Kabila on the conclusions of the recent meeting held in Libreville, Gabon, concerning the situation in Burundi. He said they had drawn up the agenda for the next Libreville meeting, “the date of which will be fixed later”. “We held a very good meeting with President Kabila today [Monday]. As you know, when we went to Libreville, a short while ago, he was not able to be there, and we then agreed with his delegation that I would come over to meet with the president here,” Zuma was quoted as saying. “We want to discuss those issues and also, in a sense, to prepare [for] the Libreville meeting that is coming so that we could help the agenda there to move quicker,” he said. “So we exchanged views on how the DRC in particular looks at that meeting and, of course, how South Africa looks at it as well. We had that discussion [and it was] very fruitful,” Zuma added. The inter-Congolese dialogue facilitator, former Botswanan president Ketumile Masire, was also invited to the meeting between Zuma and Kabila.
