ZBC needs to serve public better

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) needs to serve the Zimbabwean public better and meet the demands of public broadcasters in the new millennium, the state-run ‘Herald’ reported on Tuesday. A meeting on Monday between the government and ZBC board and management, agreed to speed up the process of restructuring the public broadcaster. The meeting agreed to speed up the process in order to facilitate efficient and effective delivery of programmes with local content. They also agreed to meaningfully engage local artists and independent producers to meet new local content requirements as well as promote a vibrant cultural and arts industry. The recently-passed Broadcast Act 2001 requires television and radio in Zimbabwe to carry at least 75 percent local content. “The meeting also heard that the ZBC board is due to meet next week to finalise and begin implementing the restructuring plan,” the department of information and publicity said in a statement last night.
