Army seizes arms from rebel-hideouts

Soldiers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) at the weekend seized several firearms and bombs in the Ruwenzori mountains, in Bundibugyo district, western Uganda. The semi-official ‘New Vision’ newspaper quoted UPDF’s second division spokesman, Lieutenant Milton Katarinyeba as saying that the weapons were recovered with the help of a former rebel chief of armoury, Musa Kakaire. Kaikire was captured at Virunga National Park in the DRC two weeks ago, the paper said. “Kaikire is very cooperative, we hope to get more weapons from the hideouts when he recovers from the injury he sustained during the fight,” Katarinyeba said.
