Fuel transporters prepare to resist separatist group

Fuel transporters from northern Nigeria have vowed to fight back if they are attacked while driving through the south, AFP reports one of their spokesmen, Awali Maishadda, as saying on Monday. This followed a threat last week by the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to attack northbound tankers, AFP said. MASSOB, which wants an independent state for the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria, blamed the sending of oil supplies to the north for fuel shortages in other parts of Nigeria.
