Increase in displaced.

In its latest situation report, for the period 30 August-6 September, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said August marked the highest number of IDPs arriving in Luena, the capital of the eastern Moxico province, since January this year. “A total of 2,498 persons arrived in Luena during the month,” WFP said. In the central Bie province during the same period, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Reintegration (MINARS) and WFP registered and verified 3,044 new IDPs into the provincial capital Kuito from four different areas in the provinces namely Chuningha, Chinguar, Chissingue and Chicala. “The current displacement is due to continued insecurity,” WFP added. The food agency said that during the reporting period it delivered 449 mt of relief commodities to partner organisations for distribution to over 23,600 beneficiaries. In the northern Uige province MINARS and WFP registered 931 new IDPs. WFP said that it had it begun distributing relief to over 10,000 IDPs in the city of Uige.
