Rights training for military, administrators

UNHCR said it would begin training local military and civilian administrators in human rights and issues related to children and gender. The two-day workshop starts on 11 March. It will involve 30 people employed in the military, police and gendarmerie. They are to be instructed on the rights of refugees and women in war zones. UNHCR will explain its mandate to protect these groups, policy issues regarding women and guidelines to prevent sexual abuse against women. Other topics will include the need to have only women soldiers search women refugees, ensuring safe passage for refugees and procedures for security checks.
