Nairobi’s international airport to get facelift

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is set to be modernised at a cost of US $33 million, it has been announced. A report by the ‘East African Standard’ on Wednesday said the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) had contracted a Belgian firm, LMC, to carry out the work, with a view to to safeguarding the airport’s position as a “premier hub” for East and Central Africa. In an effort to boost the safety and comfort of the passengers using the airport, the project would involve modernising the airport’s equipment, as well as putting in place state-of-the-art technology commensurate with projected traffic and in conformity with international standards, the report said. According to KAA’s managing director, M. S. Muriithi, “global business realities demand that we provide superior service standards to effectively compete in a dynamic and global business environment”.
