Tribespeople cross into Kenya in search of food

More than 2,000 members of the Matheniko clan of the Karamojong tribe from Moroto District in northeastern Uganda have crossed into Turkana District in northwestern Kenya in search of relief food. A Radio Uganda Radio report on 8 September, monitored by the BBC, quoted the migrants as complaining that the relief food reaching them in Uganda once every two months was too meagre to sustain life. Moroto District Defence Secretary John Langora blamed the government for failing to feed the famine-stricken people, saying “it was a shame for his people to cross into Kenya in search of food”.
