Imminent wheat shortage - newspaper

Zimbabwe only has enough wheat stocks to last until June, industry officials were quoted by the independent 'Daily News' as saying on Monday. According to the newspaper, after June the country would have to import, further straining Zimbabwe's low foreign currency reserves. Mike Prior, the chairman of the Bakers Association of Zimbabwe, was quoted as saying that imported wheat would force up bread prices. In the past, rising food prices have been the trigger for violent political protest.
