Namibia has defended its diamonds as clean in the face of attempts by exporters to brand gems from this part of the world as “conflict diamonds” from “sensitive countries”. “If we don’t act now to make people aware our diamonds are clean, consumers will boycott them together with other diamonds, and that will be detrimental to our economy,” director of mines Kennedy Hamutenya was quoted as saying.
