Rebels deny involvement in bus attack

The rebel Conseil national pour la defense de la democratie-Forces de defense pour la democratie (CNDD-FDD) has denied involvement in an ambush against a bus travelling between Kigali and Bujumbura last month, which left 20 people dead. In a statement, received by IRIN on Friday, CNDD-FDD condemned the 28 December attack which occurred in Bujumbura Rural province. The statement called for a “neutral international enquiry” into the incident and blamed the army for the attack. The other main rebel group, PALIPEHUTU-FNL, has also denied responsibility. The army says the rebels are responsible for the attack.
