Aid for foot-and-mouth

Swazi Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini has promised to financially compensate cattle owners whose foot-and-mouth infected animals are destroyed, news reports said. Veterinarians have already destroyed more than 260 cattle, mainly in the eastern part of the country. Dlamini has urged livestock owners to work with the government to contain the disease, which affects cloven-hoofed animals. At the same time, veterinary authorities in South Africa's KwaZulu Natal province said the spread of the disease there has been contained. Director of veterinary services in the province, Dr Bran Weaver, said the affected area around Camperdown had been effectively quarantined.
