President denies involvement in wars

Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore has denied accusations made in a UN report that his country has been circumventing UN arms and diamonds bans on anti-government forces in Angola and Sierra Leone, thereby fueling the conflicts in these countries. “We are waiting for the January discussions to take part in the debates on the questions of mercenaries and diamonds trafficking,” he said. In comments published in the 2-3 January edition of the government-owned tabloid, ‘Sidwaya’, he also denied the presence of Burkinabe mercenaries in neighbouring countries.
