Ugandan army spokesman Major Pheneas Katirima on Wednesday warned that Uganda would defend itself “if DRC government forces attack its positions” in northwest DRC. “What is happening is that [DRC President Laurent-Desire] Kabila’s forces are trying to attack positions we occupied before the signing of the Lusaka agreement and definitely we shall react appropriately,” he told IRIN. Uganda backs the rebel MLC which has forces in areas bordering the Republic of Congo and Central African Republic.
