Seven firms bid for energy project

Seven international firms specialising in the sale of hydro-electric power have been invited to tender for the management of the energy produced by the Manantali Dam on the River Senegal, AFP reported. This followed a meeting of partners and experts involved in the Senegal River Development Project (OMVS), of which the dam is a part, according to AFP, which cited an OMVS communique as its source. The OMVS involves Senegal, Mauritania and Mali. Its energy component, estimated to cost the equivalent of some US $317 million, will be operational in April 2001, according to OMVS predictions.
