International court starts hearing case against “aggressors”

The UN's International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Monday began hearing a case filed a year ago by the DRC government against Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi accusing them of armed aggression and massive violations of human rights, news organisations reported. According to a BBC report, the DRC specifically asked the ICJ to rule that Uganda withdraw from the country. In written statements to the court, the DRC government said that "despite promises and declarations in principle...Uganda has pursued its policy of aggression, its brutal armed interventions, its harassment and its looting," Reuters noted. The independent Ugandan 'Monitor' newspaper said that Ugandan army Chief of Staff Brigadier James Kazini was due to testify.
