Shuttle diplomacy to resolve Masire dispute

The UN and the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) are carrying out a shuttle diplomacy between the belligerents of the Lusaka accord to try and find a solution to the DRC government's rejection of the inter-Congolese dialogue facilitator, Ketumile Masire. Officials from both Masire's office and the OAU confirmed to IRIN on Tuesday that efforts were being made for a possible meeting of those involved. "The UN, the OAU are trying to bring concerned parties together to decide on the way forward," an official from Masire's office told IRIN. "We have made an appeal to the DRC government and at the moment, we are consulting on the subject," OAU's Chief of Information division Desmond Orjiako added. Meanwhile, Masire's office also said it had received US $350,000 from the Danish government to support its activities.
